Tournament Rules
The festival's main aim is popularization of King's Game, raising chess skills and qualifications of the players, integration of chess players through sport competition according to FIDE maxim "GENS UNA SUMUS" and promotion of the Chojnice and it's touring and sporting values.
I. Main information
- Organizers:
Student's Sport Club "Ósemka" Chojnice and Activites Room of Grammar School no 1 with associated Municipal Department, Chojnice District, Chojnice Sailing Club, Promotion of Region Chojnice and Aquapark in Chojnice.
- Place of tournament:
Grammar School no 1, Młodzieżowa Street 44 in Chojnice.
- Festival will be played in five groups:
- OPEN A - for players with rank> 2000 (entrance fee 70 PLN),
- OPEN B - for players with rank 1601- 1999 (entrance fee 60 PLN),
- OPEN C - for players with rank <1601- 1999 (entrance fee 50 PLN),
- OPEN D - for juniors to 16 years old (entrance fee 40 PLN),
- OPEN E - for juniors to 16 years old (entrance fee 30 PLN),
Organizers reserve the right to allow players to compete in any group even if they don't fulfill the ranking conditions.
Women are allowed to participate in any of the groups with a separate classification to be made for them. Moreover in juniors open there will be classification to 14, 10 and 8 years old.
- Game system and speed (for every group):
- Swiss system, 9 rounds, computer paring - Chess Arbiter Pro;
- Time control: 20moves/1h + 1h to finish the game.
- Foreign participants must have an identity card. Participants without Fide rating must have a document which ascertain chess title or chess category, otherwise they will play in Open B.
- Classification and ranking list:
- classification:
- winner is awarded with 1 point,
- in case of draw both players get 0,5 point,
- in case of defeat player gets no points,
- player who pauses gets 1 point.
- Ranking list in groups is established by a number of collected points and if players have the same number of points then:
- small Buchholz,
- big Buchholz,
- number of wins,
- progres.
- The competition is played in accordance with FIDE rules announced in Chess Codex with later changes.
II. Financial decisions
- Entrance fee:
- OPEN A - for players with rank> 2000 (entrance fee 70 PLN),
- OPEN B - for players with rank 1601- 1999 (entrance fee 60 PLN),
- OPEN C - for players with rank <1601- 1999 (entrance fee 50 PLN),
- OPEN D - for juniors to 16 years old (entrance fee 40 PLN),
- OPEN E - for juniors to 16 years old (entrance fee 30 PLN).
Organizers reserve the right to allow players to compete in any group even if they don't fulfill the ranking conditions.
Classification-rating fee isn't included in the entrance fee.
People over 60 years old and players of UKS "Ósemka" pay half of the entrance fee.
Grand masters and International Masters don't pay the entrance fee.
- Costs of accommodation and full board are covered by players or by delegating organization.
- Costs of tournament are covered by the organizer.
- Money prizes in OPEN A are split between players that collected the same amount of points according to Hort system. In OPEN B and C prizes won't be split.
- Awarded player can only take one regular prize.
- Ruling from point II paragraph 5 isn't binding in case of special prizes.

Number of prizes for the remaining places will be announced at the technical meeting (it depends on the amount of players). Moreover there is an award for the best player in OPEN A with rank up to 2150. There will be material prizes for the winners and the best girls in groups D and E.
IV. Final rulings
- Appeals and protests should be lodged in writing with 100 pln bail to chief arbiter till 1 hour after the end of round. If appeal or protests are found baseless the organizer will keep the bail.
- At the game hall:
- smoking is forbidden,
- drinking alcohol is forbidden,
- you should wear neat clothes suitable to the rank of the tournament.
- Player who starts to play drunk (including beer) or drink during the round, will be excluded from the tournament. Player can't appeal from this decision.
- Attendance at the open ceremony and final ceremony is regard to sponsors.
- In case of organizing the chess simultaneous game with grandmaster, the conditions of the game will be announced in proper time.
- OPEN A and B are submitted to FIDE.
- Organizer reserve the right to interpret the regulation.
